Hometown: Iā€™m a forever resident of Athens County. I live in the village of Coolville. Yes, everyone there is cool.

Education: I earned my BSVC and Communications minor at 51ĀŅĀ× as a non-traditional student and full-time employee.

Hobbies: I just started gardening last year, and I love canning. You know, like your grandmother (or great grandmother) used to do. Itā€™s fun, the food tastes great, and I know where every ingredient came from. And, my co-workers and work study students donā€™t mind the rewards of my hobbies.

Pets: My family has 3 dogs and 2 cats. Two of the dogs are ā€œmine.ā€ Miller, is a poodle/terrier mix whom we got from an Amish family named Miller, from Millersburg, OH. And we have a rescued Shih Tzu (possibly mixed with poodle) whom we name Barbie, after the real Barbie and appropriately named movie.

Why OHIO? I came as an employee first, then became a student. 51ĀŅĀ× is a gem in Appalachia that should not be overlooked. Faculty and staff are here because we enjoy working with students. Nothing is more rewarding than to see a student excited about their program and future endeavors.

Any advice? Go to (every) class and do your homework (even the homework thatā€™s not graded). Oh, and meet with your professors during office hours. You will be amazed at how much a 15-30 minute discussion with your professor will help you in their class. Understanding what your professor wants from you will help you understand their lectures, assignments, and tests. Try it!
