Biography

Kayla Heacock is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Mathematics Department and a doctoral student in Mathematics Education in The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education at 51ĀŅĀ×. She has a Master of Science in Mathematics from 51ĀŅĀ× and a Bachelor of Science in Theoretical Mathematics from The Ohio State University. In 2021, Kayla was awarded the College of Arts & Sciences Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for her work in undergraduate calculus at 51ĀŅĀ×. Currently, Kayla teaches mathematics courses for education majors and coordinates Math 1101/1102. Her research has focused on inquiry-based learning in undergraduate calculus and supporting early career secondary mathematics teachersā€™ questioning strategies to promote student generalizing. Kaylaā€™s dissertation focuses on supporting and preparing graduate mathematics teaching assistants who teach introductory mathematics courses.
