Originally trained in the visual arts with an emphasis on Iconography, Worthy came to her Ph.D. in literature via the completion of coursework and comprehensive exams for a Ph.D. in Comparative Arts/Humanities (Interdisciplinary Arts). Her English dissertation focused on the figure and tradition of Mary Magdalen in the Medieval play āThe Digby Mary Magdalenā and Shakespeareās late play, āPericles, Prince of Tyre.ā
