Michele Fiala
Professor of Oboe
Michele Fiala is the Professor of Oboe at 51ĀŅĀ×. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Italy, England, Germany, France, Spain, Canada and Japan. Her orchestral work has included performances with the Cincinnati Symphony, Columbus Symphony, Memphis Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Tucson Symphony, Knoxville Symphony, West Virginia Symphony and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra.
Of her solo CDs, and on MSR Classics, Fanfare Magazine said, āThe playing is light, fluent, and wonderfully flexible,ā BBC Music Magazine noted her āimpressive commandā and American Record Guide said, āShe has depth, charm, and humor.ā Her recent CD with the Athenia Trio, (Navona Records) was called āunpredictable and glowing.ā Fiala has commissioned many new works for these recordings, by composers including Phillip Bimstein (UT), Susan Kander (NYC), Bev Lewis (Canada), Alyssa Morris (KS), Robbie McCarthy (CA), and Theresa Martin (WI).
Dr. Fialaās second book, (coauthored with Martin Schuring) was recently released by Oxford University Press. Her first book, , is published by Trevco Music Publishing. She served as Secretary of the International Double Reed from 2014 until 2018 and as Chair of the Young Artist Competition from 2010 through 2014.
