Libraries offers African and African Diaspora Film Series

The African Educational Research Network (AERN), Patton College of Education, 51ĀŅĀ× Libraries and the African Studies Program are co-sponsoring the screening of two films from the Libraries Film Collection that focus on African migrantsāboth on the following dates from 6-8 p.m. in Alden Library (319):
Thurs. Feb. 21: &²Ō²ś²õ±č;āā (2018)
This feature-length documentary āexplores the plight of long-term refugees through a glimpse into the lives of those living in Dadaab, Kenya, one of the world's largest refugee camps. We see the camp's inner workings through one man's journey to do everything in his power to provide for his family. This manās story is not unique however; it accentuates the much larger problems that long-term refugees have faced for centuriesā¦ā ()
Thurs. Feb. 28: āā (2014)
āAfter their village is destroyed and their parents killed by Northern militia, Sudanese orphans Theo, his siblings and other survivors make a difficult journey to a refugee camp in Kenya. Thirteen years later, the group gets the chance to settle in the U.S.,ā (film website) where their encounter with an employment agency counselor forever changes all of their lives.ā
Join us for this in-depth film series, which provides an opportunity for OHIO students, faculty and staff, as well as the Athens community-at-large, to engage with issues related to Africa, its people and its culture.
