Hannibal B. Johnson to speak about 'Black Wall Street' Feb. 13
The 51ĀŅĀ× Multicultural Center will co-host a 90 Minutes Series presentation on āBlack Wall Street,ā by Hannibal B. Johnson at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in Baker University Center Ballroom as a part of Black History Month.
The E.W. Scripps School of Journalism hosts the 90 Minutes Series that brings speakers to campus throughout the year to dicuss politics, racism, sexism and other global topics.
Johnson, a Harvard-educated lawyer, is a renowned author, consultant, and attorney. He has received several awards of merit such as the āKeeping The Dream Aliveā award from the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Society and the 2015 National Philanthropy Day Award for Diversity and Inclusion from the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
His books include, āImages of America: Tulsaās Historic Greenwood District, Big Mama Speaks - A Tulsa Race Riot Survivorās Story,ā and āBlack Wall Street ā From Riot to Renaissance in Tulsaās Historic Greenwood District.ā
The session will focus on racism in the Tulsaās Greenwood District and the resilience of 20th century African-American entrepreneurs. Johnson does not want anyone to forget the anger and anarchy that wiped out this prosperous community; he ensures that no one does through his prose, in his TV appearances and in his talks on historic Greenwood.
The public is urged to join and hear what Johnson has to say about what happened almost a century ago when white hate ran amok.
