Vintage cars and theater stars will shine during On The Green Weekend

Join the OHIO Alumni Association for the 5th annual On The Green Weekend, a springtime homecoming on May 16-19 packed with events celebrating academics and the arts.
Come home during the best time to visit Athens and enjoy activities and events for all tastes, including two returning favorites: Cruise-In At The Convo and a performance by 51ĀŅĀ× Lancaster Theatre.
On Saturday, May 19, showcase your hot wheels or admire the display of classic automobiles at Cruise-In At The Convo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families, OHIO students, alumni and community members are all welcome to join in the fun.
The first 110 registered vehicles will receive dash plaques and free T-shirts while supplies last. Registration is $10 per vehicle and will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
Association Assistant Director of External Relations Ryan Boyd said the annual community car show has featured vehicles from 44 Ohio counties and seven states.
āCruise-In At The Convo is one of the best examples of our local community joining 51ĀŅĀ× to create an unforgettable experience,ā Boyd said. āThe event always has unique vehicles, and the addition of food, music, prizes and more help to create appeal for a diverse audience ranging from car enthusiasts to families.ā
All event proceeds benefit OHIOās Marching 110 and its alumni society.

After the car show, head to 51ĀŅĀ× Lancaster Theatreās production of āNext to Normalā at 2 p.m. in the Baker Center Theater. This Pulitzer Prize-winning pop-rock musical follows the story of an American family that is anything but typical.
āItās really exciting to have a theater program on our campus, itās thriving and growing,ā Victor Jones, the programās artistic director, said. āItās continually supported by the Association. We are thrilled to return to the Athens Campus this spring.ā
Jones started the theater program at the Lancaster Campus eight years ago and has watched the program flourish. The group was recently recognized as one of six finalists at the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theater FestivalāRegion II, which includes Ohio and eight other states.
āIt is with great pride that we can showcase these talented young artists and the tremendously successful 51ĀŅĀ× Lancaster Theatre program,ā Dawn Werry, the Associationās senior director of external relations, said. āIt is a joy to watch Victor engage and educate these dedicated students.ā
