Roll into battle for a good cause

Some of the most fun you can have on two wheels is back in the form of Quad Rugby 2018.
The fundraiser is held for the Buckeye Blitz, a semi-professional quad rugby team based in Columbus, and is being hosted by the 51ĀŅĀ× physical therapy division on Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in OHIOās Ping Center.
In its 12th iteration, the fundraiser is looking to beat last yearās proceeds of $4,084 which helps fund the teamās entry into tournaments, pay for maintenance of the rugby wheelchairs and other costs.
āThis fundraiser pays for the bulk of our season,ā said Jeremy Finton, Blitz team captain. āItās a huge contributor to us being able to be successful and compete year to year. Itās a huge benefit and without the contribution, we wouldnāt be able to have a season.ā
Those who enter can pay $100 for a team of four players, $110 for a team of five or $120 for a team of six. A T-shirt is included in the fee and gift cards from a number of area businesses will be raffled during the event.
Signing up means being able to participate in a thrilling and fun event where some of the best quad rugby players roll across the floor.
āIt gives everyone a chance to throw themselves into an adaptive sport,ā said Finton. āItās pretty much like bumper cars. Itās fun, a little aggressive and competitive. Most teams really go for it out there and try to beat us. They donāt want to lose, we donāt want to lose so thereās pride in it but itās just a lot of fun.ā
More information will be available during tabling sessions at Grover Centerās Atrium on Sept. 27-28 and Oct. 1-5 from noon to 3 p.m. each of those days where raffle tickets and shirts will also be sold.
