The Theatre Department of 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern Campus will present āScattered Shakespeareā
The Theatre Department of 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern Campus will present āScattered Shakespeareā, a collection of Shakespeare monologues and scenes, on Saturday, April 17 at 8:00pm on the 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern Campus YouTube channel.
The theme of this collection of scenes and monologues is āwhat ifā¦?ā The 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern Theatre company used that phrase as a starting point to re-imagine some of Shakespeareās characters and situations. According to OHIO Eastern Theatre Director Dennis Fox, āThe five actors involved are very experienced. We began by thinking of each scene and monologue as a play unto itself and I encouraged the actors to make choices that might not be possible in a fully staged production.ā
The āwhat ifā¦?ā approach has led to interpretations that have surprised everyone involved with the production. The virtual rehearsals and recorded video format have also led to choices that might not have been an option in a fully staged, live production. Adds Fox, āIn the beginning we all knew we had no idea where this process would lead us. We have been very pleasantly surprisedā¦I think audiences will be too.ā
The āScattered Shakespeareā cast consists of 51ĀŅĀ× Eastern Theatre veterans Megan Simcox, of Colerain, Renno Barnes, of Bridgeport and Howard Blecher, of Flushing. Alexander L. Hill and Chelsey Keding, both of St. Clairsville, are new to OHIO Eastern Theatre, but both have a strong background in performance. āIām very lucky to have such experienced and talented actors. Their passion and dedication have made āScattered Shakespeareā a unique and rewarding experience.ā
Those interested can virtually attend the premiere performance at 8:00pm on Saturday, April 17 on the . The performance will continue to available after the premiere.
