OHIO faculty asked to complete the outdoor classroom survey

Sustainable Living Hub Coordinator Kyle Butler has a message for all 51ĀŅĀ× educators.

ā€œFellow OHIO educators, Iā€™ve seen you out there on College Green with your students when the weather is nice in September and April!  Maybe youā€™ve seen me out there as well,ā€ said Butler, who is an associate professor of instruction in the Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE) in the College of Arts and Sciences. ā€œWith such a beautiful, tree-shaded campus, why would we want to confine teaching and learning to the walls of a classroom?"

As the Office of Sustainabilityā€™s new Sustainable Living Hub Coordinator, Butler hopes to take teaching and learning at OHIO outside of the classroom box by:

  • promoting the outdoor teaching already taking place at OHIO
  • provisioning popular spaces for holding class outdoors
  • building a fully equipped outdoor classroom on the Athens campus

In order to help with this effort, Butler is asking the University community to . Even if you have never taken a class outside, your input is valuable to this effort.

If you have any questions or would like more information, contact Butler at butlerk@ohio.edu or on Teams.
