51ĀŅĀ× to host information session for faculty, share updates regarding ongoing faculty petition for representation on Dec. 10

The following message was shared with 51ĀŅĀ× faculty on Dec. 5, 2024.

Last spring, the United 51ĀŅĀ× of 51ĀŅĀ× (UAOU) filed a petition with the Ohio State Employment Relations Board (SERB) to be recognized as a collective bargaining unit on behalf of all faculty. Last month, 51ĀŅĀ× reached a tentative agreement with national union organizers representing UAOU on a proposed voting unit description.

University leadership continues to hear from faculty who support the formation of a union and others who oppose unionization, and we remain committed to sharing information as it becomes available to help ensure that: 1) all faculty have a voice in the process and the outcome and 2) the University community has a broad understanding of the issues and impacts this process may have.

As part of OHIOā€™s efforts to help ensure all faculty are informed and can share their voice in the ongoing faculty petition for representation process, the University will host a hybrid information session for interested faculty on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in Irvine Hall 194 and

Executive Vice President and Provost Don Leo and Director of Employee and Labor Relations Mike Courtney will facilitate this discussion and address faculty questions; they will also cover key aspects of the ongoing unionization process, including some impacts that a ā€œyesā€ or ā€œnoā€ vote may have.

All faculty are encouraged to submit their unionization questions in advance by emailing news@ohio.edu; please use the subject line "Unionization Question." Live questions will be addressed during the session as time allows.

Additional information available online
