A major is a specific area of study youāre focusing on while earning your degree. When you choose a major, about a third to half of your courses will focus on that academic area.
A minor is a secondary area of study you can choose to specialize in, beyond your major. You donāt have to declare a minor, but it can complement what you major in ā or give you time to learn about an unrelated subject or passion.
A certificate is a more targeted and specific short-term program you can earn in (usually) a matter of months compared to years like a degree. Certificate programs can help you get into a certain career, boost a specific skillset, or help increase your salary later on.
A degree is what you earn/receive when you have passed your series of courses in your major. There are four types of degrees: associate degree (typically 2-year undergraduate programs), bachelorās degree (typically 4-year undergraduate programs), masterās or graduate degrees (typically 2-year degrees, completed after an undergraduate degree), and doctorate or professional degrees.
